The Downsides & Risks of CoolSculpting

For some of us, maintaining the perfect figure isn't as easy as it is for others, especially after having a baby. Looking for a quick fix, many women opt for an elective body-shaping treatment known as CoolSculpting.

Why should you not do CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting supposedly freezes your fat cells to the point that they dissolve through your liver, making you skinnier, but many patients walk away from the experience feeling rather cold about the whole ordeal. Many  patients even notice side effects that make them wish they never spent their money in the first place.

We will cover the side effects and risks of CoolSculpting (as well as some safer and more effective alternatives).

Can CoolSculpting go wrong?

There are many things that go wrong during a Coolsculpting procedure. Especially when you compare the risk of downsides and side effects compared to competing devices like the truSculpt iD Fat Removal treatment.

Because the treatment works by freezing your fat cells, the targeted areas temperature has to decrease quite significantly. This increases the risk of adverse effects during the fat removal treatment.

Does CoolSculpting damage skin?

If a Coolsculpting procedure goes according to plan, there shouldn't be any long term issues or permanent damage to the skin. However Coolsculpting treatments come with considerable downtime when compared to truBody treatments, which don't have any downtime.

Side Effects of CoolSculpting

Here are some of the side effects of CoolSculpting that may encourage you to look into other options.

Loss of Feeling

Cold temperatures can cause you to become numb, so you may expect temporary numbness after the procedure However, some patients report a loss of sensation for up to a month. While not life-threatening, that's certainly alarming!

Redness/Swelling

Similar to how your cheeks get rosy when you must stay outside in cold temperatures, CoolSculpting can cause some redness and swelling. However, it's not as cute as rosy cheeks or a pink nose. Some people report redness in the target area, which won't go away. The red, blotchy skin can make the patient feel less attractive then when they first came to their appointment.

Pain

While generally mild, some people do report a bit of pain after the procedure. Usually, they refer to the pain as a stinging or pinching sensation. The pain can be managed with over-the-counter medications and a little bit of time. Most people don't experience any pain at all.

Digestive Issues

As we mentioned, CoolSculpting forces the body to absorb the destroyed fat cells through the liver. That's a lot of fat for your liver and the rest of your digestive body to handle. You may experience mild to moderate digestive discomfort, usually in the form of diarrhea, until you pass all of the fat cells.

Artificial Appearance

Some patients report  minor body disfigurement after getting CoolSculpting. The body tends to readjust fat accordingly to keep things even. However, some patients notice noticeable unbalanced fat distribution that makes it very obvious they got work done. Unfortunately, repair may require surgery. While extremely rare, when it does happen, it can leave both a literal and metaphorical scar.
